‘Fun and Games’ NYC Reviews: ‘Exhilarating Plot Twists’ in This ‘Smart’ Comedy Thriller

Grateful for the stellar reviews/coverage of my play from some top theater websites!

Darryl Reilly, who has been covering the New York City performing arts scene since 2013, wrote a lovely review of our show Fun and Games on theatrescene.org.

“The alluring blonde Marisa Sullivan is in full Barbara Stanwyck-mode as the femme fatale wife. Ms. Sullivan’s expressive voice, limber physicality and display of varying emotion, all enhance her full-blooded characterization” in this “smart contemporary comedy thriller.”

Admittedly, I was unfamiliar with Stanwyck, but after a quick search, I am flattered by the comparison. This dynamic role of Bethany in Fun and Games allowed me to show so many layers of performance. Truly a dream.

From a Rotten Tomatoes profile:

“Barbara Stanwyck was a dazzling study in contrasts. At times sultry and sweet; vulnerable and tough; comedic and dramatic; joyous and tragic – she simply was one of the greatest and most unique actresses during Hollywood’s Golden Era. She could play whatever the part required.”

Thanks, Darryl!

And here’s a nice synopsis from TheaterMania.com:

“A couple comes up with a daring game to spice up their relationship, and then take things a step further. A film noir style play in which the stakes increase as the game gets real and it becomes tougher to tell the player from the played. Justin Bennett directs a talented cast with experience on stage, film and TV in this play written by Claude Solnik. Marisa Sullivan plays Bethany, Joshua Gutierrez portrays Kevin, Enrique Huili is Nate, Arisael Rivera is Denny, Leo Delgado is Sweeney, and Bridgette Leath portrays a cop.

Last, but certainly not least, Broadwayworld.com gave us some nice coverage of our “cinema noir” style play HERE.

Fun and Games ran from October 13 to October 23 at Theater for the New City in Manhattan’s East Village.
